SEASON OF GIFTS 4

It's the last week before New Year. I've been enjoying looking back at all my projects for 2016 and I'm very happy. I'm looking forward to creating and having fun in 2017!

For this week I was following Julia's tutorial for Get Messy on "unconscious" creating. I love this type of exercises. They give you ideas, you go straight into paint without overthinking and they are fun!

INTUITIVE PAINTING

I started A Year of Painting course in the beginning of this year.

Every three weeks there was a new lesson. Each lesson focused on different techniques of intuitive painting. I absolutely loved the way of Alena Hennessy's teaching. I tried so many new things that I never knew existed. I experimented with paints, paper, wood, canvases. It feels like a great start!

I decided to share my 3 favourite paintings here.

Layers of acrylic paints and ink.

  Gesso and acrylic paint.

Acrylics, ink, texture paste

SEASON OF GIFTS WEEK 3

This week of Gifts for Getmessy Artjournal was about glitter for me. Glitter instantly adds festive feeling to anything. So I've been adding glitter and interference acrylic paint anywhere. It is so much fun because it changes color depending of the background!

When I think of my childhood and Christmas (New Year is what we actually celebrate here in Russia) it's always the smell of the tree, pickled tomatoes in huge jars and the scariest kids movie Der Zwerg Nose. Oh and that Soviet mini Christmas tree with tiny glass decorations.

SEASON OF GIFTS WEEK 2

What is the gift that I'd love to get?

I'd love the gift of time. I'd spend it on mixing colors longer and enjoying smooth brush strokes. I'd try and find new mixed media combinations. I'd take my time to search for perfect gold acrylic paint. I'd also spend more time on taking pictures of the works I do which is my least favourite part of the process.

I might just go and do all of this now!

Here is a page for this week.

SEASON OF GIFTS

The Season of Gifts has arrived.

For this season I made an accordion journal. I also wrapped it in tissue paper so that it represents a gift itself. I used black paper inside the journal and decided on using only pastel gouache. There's something magical in using thick layers of gouache on black. I'm thinking of keeping it abstract.

The present is a gift, the future is yet unwrapped.

This last page is from my monthly Sketchbook. Foil nails IS a gift!

NOVEMBER JOURNAL

This month I'm taking part in a gouache challenge called #gouachevember. It's a weekly challenge where each week there's a new theme. So far 3 weeks have past. Pantry portrait. Bedside table objects. Doors and doorways. Next week will be tea and comfort. I'm looking forward to painting some teapots!

My november journal/sketchbook is made out of a cool neon pink envelope. There are two signatures of mixed media paper in the journal.

And my favourite pages.

NYC TRAVEL JOURNAL PART 1

I got into the habbit of drawing daily events into my sketchbook. This is super fun if you're not into journaling but into collecting stuff and taking many pictures. Sometimes there are so many things happening and you wish to keep them all in mind but your mental memory card is full!

I'd draw one to two things that happened during a few days that will instantly bring me back to the place and people I was with. On less eventful days I'd still paint something though.

This strategy was very much influenced by gouache sketchbook class I took earlier this year. (It is on sale now!)

Some of my favourite pages.

SEASON OF DREAMS WEEK 6

For the last week of Get Messy Artjournal I created an abstract page.My favourite kind of dream is the one where I realize everything is going to be fine. It happened to me several times. It's not a particular image or events. It's a feeling that it's all going good. I love waking up with it

SEASON OF DREAMS WEEK 5

My childhood dreams included becoming a monkey trainer, ice cream seller and pickle maker. I'd say they're all coming true.

I love playing with my dogs and one of them is from Thailand and she's such a monkey! I love pickling stuff and I might try making ice cream soon!

COLLAB JOURNAL IN PROGRESS

I was so excited to start the collaboration journal with Cait , mixed media artist whose work I absolutely adore.

I made a little journal and started a few pages.

SEASON OF DREAMS WEEK 4

I had the weirdest dream the other day. It was about a horse that was beautiful but I didn't need it. And I felt stuck with it not knowing where to keep it. It's probably is about frustration or some sort of burden.

I decided to make this week's page for the next week of Get Messy Season of Dream in the colours of Child of Light game.

SEASON OF DREAMS WEEK 3

This week for the Get Messy Artjournal I created this page.

I often don't remember if I dreamed or not. It's like a fog or veil which I can't see through.

My biggest dream has always been to get a dream recorder!

GOUACHE

Gouache is so much different from any other medium. Sometimes it's watercolor and sometimes it's almost acrylics. Either way I love it.

I got a couple of autumn colors from Schmincke and The Elements of Style with Kalman illustrations.

Feeling inspired

SEASON OF DREAMS WEEK 2

I often have this annoying dream when everything is so bright that I can't see anything. I thought it meant something until I realized I hae these dreams when it's too bright in the room. I sleep the best with a complete light blackout.

SEASON OF DREAMS

My season of dreams starts with my Member Spotlight for Getmessy Artjournal. I can't even say how much of a dream it is to me. So happy and so grateful to all the wonderful people in getmessy!

Ok. The first week of dreams is about trying to remember dreams. I usually remember tiny bits, it's almost never a complete story. Unless it's really short. Lately I had this funny one where I have a friend who owns a pet squirrel and a pet racoon. And the pets are friends. It's always something ridiculous!

I used bits of paper as I usually remember bits of dreams.

PLANT SKETCHES

Lately I've been into simple pencil + gouache sketches of plants. I like the feeling of soft pencil on the paper and matte finish of gouache together. Here are a few of them.

GOUACHE

I've been playing with gouache lately. I like the flat matte finish it gives. And it's really fun to put details.

SEASON OF MUSIC WEEK 6

Find ways of representing silence. This is the page I did for the final week of Season of Music of Get Messy artjournal.

I love Depeche Mode older songs.
